A Birthday
Due to Murphy’s Law, by the time our two small children had the all clear to go back to crèche it had closed for a week, which is the protocol in France when there are 3 cases in any one class. While this presented us with a new logistical issue, it also gave us the opportunity to spend more time together at home. Luckily I work freelance and I’m pretty used to last minute childcare changes due to (but not limited to): strikes, sick days, windy weather (yes really) and a global pandemic, so I know how to re-jig a schedule with minimum fuss.
Although I obviously wish we had never caught covid, and the children’s routines hadn’t been disrupted, this period at home gave me a rare moment to be the kind of parent I aim to be. With no external distractions I was free to be more attentive, read the same picture book over and over, cook fun food like pasta from scratch and give endless cuddles. I…
