We were lucky enough to avoid yesterday’s Eurostar drama and are currently in the French countryside to celebrate Le réveillon de la Saint-Sylvestre (New Year’s Eve) with a big group comprised of 11 adults, 3 teenagers and 7 small children. There have been two location changes, hundreds of WhatsApp messages, multiple group chats and 19 hours of driving to bring us all together for a few days and it’s usually the one time a year this particular group (my husband’s 3 best friends and their families) convenes.
Having just spent time in London with my family and friends there are certain particularities when staying with French people that jump out at me. When I first moved here I thought they were specific to my in-laws but I’ve gown to understand that although the rituals of each household differ slightly these are some Very French Things.
