In 2024 I decided to buy no new clothes, which was honestly a lot easier than I thought it would be. I’m sort of an all or nothing person so knowing it just wasn’t an option cleared up a lot of headspace that’s usually filled with “can I afford it/do I want it/do I need it/is this bad for the planet?” etc. As the year closes I wanted to do a recap of everything I bought to look back on how I did and what I learnt.
My rules were to buy nothing “new to me”, which closed the lovely little loophole that is vintage (I did accept hand-me-down clothing which included a huge haul from a very stylish friend who moved house) with pre-planned exceptions for new jeans and a new swimsuit. I didn’t expressly include/exclude shoes, accessories or jewellery as I rarely buy them but have listed them below for an honest consumption summary.
