With the house packed up, the dog sent to the countryside and Paris in peak form for the Olympics we set off on our summer holidays with 3 long weeks stretched out in front of us. The train from Gare de Lyon to Nice was busy but uneventful and we immediately switched to a smaller regional train to the colourful village of Menton, our base for the night, and were checked into our little hotel in time to stroll to the beach and take in the pirate ship playground before dinner. Our crêpes were hardly eaten before the kids pleaded for a spin on the merry-go-round, and we tasted the locally made lemon sorbet as they bobbed up and down on their horses.
