The Best of August
I absolutely adore Paris in August. Yes stores close without a moment’s notice (sometimes minutes after you have called to check they’re open) and there are tourists galore (I love you, please keep coming again and again, Paris needs you) but my neighbourhood is quiet, it’s easy to get a table at my favourite restaurant and I can wander the streets with wet hair (I hate drying it) without any Parisian side eye, as they’re all out of town.
I’ve successfully avoided turning on the oven for over a week and instead have served a mix of salads, charcuterie, fruit and cheese and let everyone graze. My set routine husband was a bit confused but the kids loved the novelty and I loved the ease. There has also been takeout and a visit to the in-laws which helped me avoid the kitchen for a little longer.
